Pattern Review - A one-piece dress

I made this! [please ignore the crease as I was in a hurry to show u guys : P ]

Following the pattern from one of my favourite japanese pattern book that I blog about the other day.

The back view with the cute ribbon tie

Just like the pattern book!

It pattern is easy enough. I decided to add the dart last minute as it really looks like maternity wear on me : (

The model is really thin so maybe that's why it looks good on her. But I still like my dress. The top is cotton and the skirt is a suiting fabric.  Hmmm..I need to tie up my hair to show the ribbon tie when I wear this one!

Will be making another one from the book another time. The book is full of sweet designs and I love most of the look. You can get them through Amazon or at Kinokuniya @ Orchard Road.

A birthday skirt

My niece had her 6 year old birthday celebration last Sunday. I made her a baby blue pettiskirt. Made them using the same tutorial that I refered to when I made the 2 pink skirts for my girls.

I got these lovely soft chiffon in strips from here.  If I'm making them for sale, probably I'll order more because they are really very soft and nice. As this is the 3rd skirt I've made, I've managed to cut the sewing time to 3 hours. How? Instead of cutting the length of the ruffle layer of the skirt, I just let my sewing machine ruffle them and measure the length once a while against the 2nd chiffon layer so that I get the same length without having to adjust the gathers too much. Save lots of time to adjust the longgggg chiffon.

It's abit long on her though, she's a small build 6 year old. I made her the same size as my older girl who is taller. Used less chiffon in lenght so that there is less volume since she is smaller build. Overall, the skirt still looks lovely and fluffy.

Simple sewing for baby

My baby really needed more bibs.  Her drools are all over the place.

BUT,

Sewing will take some time.... Not to mention cutting the pieces and adding bias tapes...

If I change the colour of the bias tapes, it will mean changing of coloured thread...

Do I have the time? Hmm..how many more sewing projects still on wait list??? countless...

Ok, I admit...I was lazy, so I thought of a quicky way to customised and spice up the regular bib.

Ikea-bought bib at $1.90

to

Fun and unique bib - priceless!

Just apply heat and bond to the back of the cut pieces and iron onto the bib. Sew around the edge for added security. You can spice up any bib with the scraps that is too wastefull to throw away. Good idea huh!

The toddler is appreciative too!
