My last sewing for KCWC

I've not done a lot of sewing for this round of KCWC. Only managed to make 2 knit tops, 3 hats (yes, I made 2 more after that. Will share a quick tips on sewing it up really quick and easy soon) and lastly, 2 swim suits.

Much as I wish to be more productive, I was tired from work.  The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak : (

Anyway, here's my last piece of work for KCWC.  A tankini with attached skirt!

A tankini with skirt

My older girl refused to wear the traditional kind cause she said she is conscious of her backside. So I had to make her a tankini with a little skirt.

Nowadays, I can't just stop at one. Gotta have the same kind for little sister, or else!

A mini version for little sister

The 2 are quite identical except the difference in the way the straps cross at the back.

I really love the bright colors. Got the lycra ruffle fabric from Chinatown.  Since I had originally had in mind to only make 1, it is a challenge to squeeze out 2 using only 3/4 yard.

And of course I made them matching panties to go with their new suits! I didn't want to attach the pants to the suit as I hope they are still able to go toilet in the midst of playing in the pool without having to struggle out from wet swim suits.

For my older girl, I adjusted a one-piece swim suit pattern and make reference from one of her pantie. Added the ruffle skirt around. Little sister's was from Dana's diaper cover tutorial, except that I added the ruffles.

I'll share more on how to in my next post. Still on my sewing table is one shorts for me and a skirt for the little one. Come back soon.

KCWC Day 2/3

I know it's a Kids Clothes Sewing but a hat is also consider clothing sewing? No?

My little girl is in need of a hat to cover her little head as she got thin hair and I'm worried the effect of the scorching sun will burnt her scalp.  I need one that provide enough coverage for even her ears.

So, I went to search through my (growing) sewing books and found the Reversible bucket hat pattern from oliver + s.  I bought the book "little things to sew" some time back and didn't have time to sew anything from it yet. I would love to sew the tutu skirt, penguin bag pack and  red riding hood some days too.

Anyway, measure her head circumference and sew up the Size S.  The instruction is very clear with illustration.  I'll be doing one more for the older one soon since it's so cute!  I've used cotton from my stash for this small project.  Pink with polka dots and fuchsia with polka dots on the reverse side.

Since I only managed to finish this late at night, Dora will do the modeling for me! Nice size : )

For this round of KCWC, I'm taking it easy cause I'm really tied up at my full time work. The past week was crazy with me staying late at work. But I do plan to do some more kids sewing for KCWC, even though it will be much lesser than the 7 pieces of clothing I did last year.

Next up, hopefully, I will be able to sew up some swim suits! Stay tune

2012 KCWC Day 1

I started the KCWC with a knit top.

In fact, I made 2!

Shall we love at the details?

The first top is for my 2 year old. I took the pattern from a Japanese sewing book that has a lot of cute knit sewing projects.

I love the details at the back which I've used a contrasting knit fabric with cheerful animal prints.

I also love the curve hem of the knit Tee that makes the shape so fitting.

Here's my girl wearing the her new tee.  The fit is just nice!

For the other tee, I took the pattern from another japanese sewing pattern book. It is less fitting and had button details on the shoulders.  It has some pleats on shoulder so the sleeve is a little puffy.

She loves her new tee.

So does her sister.

I glad the sisters love their new tees.

KCWC Spring 2012

Hey! Have you heard it? The KCWC Kids Clothes Week Challenge is here again!

Last year I made some very nice clothes for my kids during the KCWC.

 Vest with cute print

big pockets skirts

knit sweater with cute button

floral sunshine dress with butterfly back button

checked shorts with nice pocket details

blouse with rows cute buttons

simple skirt with lace details

I can't wait to participate this time round. Not that I can't sew up kids clothes myself but it's really fun to have some organized sewing to get things done.  Am now browsing through my sewing books and Pinterest to get some inspiration..

Are you On it yet?

A roundup of the KCWC Fall 2011

Okay, here's my kids in their new clothes that I made for them for KCWC Fall 2011!

My pretty little lady

So you can see her butterfly button

I love how she looks up to her sister, so cute!

Knit Top
It's abit big on her but she loves the button
A line skirt
She wouldn't look into the camera so I can't get a still photo of her in the skirt.

I caught her when she was just about to sneeze!
Floral Top
She can't stop pulling the buttons cause they are so cute!

Ok, got to take a closer look at the delicious buttons!

Finally, a more proper shot of the blouse. Cut buttons right?

Skirt with pocket

Haven't got a chance to take photo of the vest and shorts yet. Probably this sunday when she wear them to church I can get some nice photos!

KCWC Day 7

The final day of the KCWC. It was indeed very fulfilling, but tiring as well. I was glad I had plan well and made my preparation work last week else I'll not be able to complete all my projects.

The last KCWC, I've made a shorts for my girl. It has pocket with flaps and buttons and elastic waistband.

I especially like the pockets with the flap and shiny buttons.  It was made using the leftover suiting fabric from my top.  So I didn't have enough fabric and I skipped the additional hem details and used another cotton fabric at the inner waistband to make up for it. Anyway, it still looks good. : )

I followed the pattern from this Japanese book (as you can see, it is my favorite for kids clothes).

This pattern specifically...

I'll try to take photos of my kids wearing the 7 clothes in my next post, hopefully they will cooperate.  Really enjoyed the KCWC and glad that I join in the fun and challenge. I'm a better planned sewer now, I think : )

KCWC Day 6

A sunshine dress

I've traced out one of her dress and make this one up myself. The neckline and armholes are binded with bias tapes.

The waistband is made of bias tape too. I made the small sweet ribbon and sew it on by hand.

This is the back view of the dress.  I sew a 4mm elastic band at the back waist area so that it will give the dress some form.  First time trying so my skills are so-so but I'm happy with this addition. Makes the dress interesting.

Did you notice the shoulder area. I've also sewn elastic band along the inside of the shoulder seam and make it narrower and much better fit.

I love the sweet pink butterfly button closure. It was a request by my girl. It really suit the dress like a butterfly in a garden of bright flowers, don't you think? And the best of all, the dress is fully lined! Cause the cotton fabric is quite light weight and I feel a lining will makes it more cooling and comfortable to wear.

I'm afraid I don't have a tutorial here since it evolves as I sew. It was suppose to be a simple dress but the bias tapes and elastic details make it more interesting, I think. I will definitely going to sew another one for my younger girl and even myself.  Maybe then I'll do a tutorial if anyone is interested to learn.

Gosh, tomorrow will be the last day of KCWC. I'm really beat but very much pleased of all my sewings. Not that they are perfectly made but I'm glad I've meet my objective to sew one garment a day for my girls.  How's your KCWC? I believe, challenging but rewarding right?

Next week, I think I will do some early Christmas sewing and probably some skirts/dress for me and some bags. See ya!

KCWC Day 5

A floral blouse with cute button details.

back
I made this with the pattern from Pochee, a Japanese sewing magazine. This issue focus on kids sewing.

Look, this blouse is where I adapt the blouse. It's a design from Yuki Araki who did a lot of kids sewing pattern books.

Love the Red yoke details at neck area.  Did you notice the four cute buttons. Got them from Diaso for $2!

What did you sew for KCWC?
